Helen Folasade Adu (born January 16, 1959) is a British singer-songwriter, composer, and record producer. She first achieved success in the 1980s as the frontwoman and lead vocalist of the Brit and Grammy Award winning English group Sade.


Sade was born in Ibadan, Oyo State, Nigeria. She studied at the Central Saint Martins College of Art and Design.


Sade is responsible for the hit singles “Smooth Operator” and “The Sweetest Taboo”, and she has won three Grammy Awards, including one for Best Pop Vocal Album for Lovers Rock in 2002.

Kina Kasuya Grannis (born August 4, 1985) is a Japanese American guitarist and singer-songwriter. She is of Japanese, English, Irish, French, and German descent. Kina grew up in Mission Viejo, California.


On November 14, 2007, she created her YouTube account and began posting videos of her songs online. Her first video, “Message From Your Heart”, was entered into Doritios Crash the Super Bowl contest and she won that contest. Her YouTube videos have received more than 77 million views and have propelled her to become one of YouTube's most popular personalities. She won Best Web-Born Artist 2011.

Marvin Pentz Gay, Jr. (April 2, 1939 – April 1, 1984) was an American singer-songwriter and musician with a three-octave vocal range. He was crowned The Prince of Motown and The Prince of Soul.


He influenced the quiet storm, urban adult contemporary, and slow jam genres. Best hits are What's Going On, Let's Get It On, Sexual Healing...


On April 1, 1984, Marvin Gaye was fatally shot by his father.

Robert Nesta Marley (February 6, 1945 – May 11, 1981) was a Jamaican singer-songwriter and musician. He was the rhythm guitarist and lead singer for the ska, rocksteady and reggae band Bob Marley & The Wailers.


Marley remains the most widely known and revered performer of reggae music, and is credited with helping spread both Jamaican music and the Rastafari movement to a worldwide audience. Marley's music was heavily influenced by the social issues of his homeland, and he is considered to have given voice to the specific political and cultural nexus of Jamaica.


His best-known hits include I Shot the Sheriff, No Woman, No Cry, Could You Be Loved, Stir It Up, Jamming, Redemption Song, One Love and, Three Little Birds.


Bill Withers

 

Bill Withers

William Harrison Withers, Jr. (born July 4, 1938) is an American singer-songwriter and musician who performed and recorded from 1970 until 1985. He is well known for songs like “Lean on Me”, “Ain't No Sunshine”, “Use Me”, “Just the Two of Us”, “Lovely Day”, and “Grandma's Hands”.


After his discharge from the Navy in 1965, he relocated to Los Angeles for a musical career. Withers worked a full time job making toilet seats at the Boeing aircraft company and recorded demos on the side at night for several years prior to being signed to the recording label in 1970.


In 1971 Bill released his debut album “Just As I Am”. This album produced such memorable hits as “Ain't No Sunshine” and “Grandma's Hands.” Withers was awarded his first Grammy award as a songwriter for “Ain’t No Sunshine,” in 1971.

Leonard Albert Kravitz (born May 26, 1964) is an American singer-songwriter, multi-instrumentalist, record producer, actor and arranger. He touched upon such genres as soul, funk, reggae, hard rock, psychedelic, folk, and ballads over the years.


Kravitz often plays all the guitar, bass, drums, keyboards and percussion himself when recording. He won the Grammy Award for Best Male Rock Vocal Performance four years in a row. He also won American Music Awards, MTV Video Music Awards, Radio Music Awards, BRIT Awards and Blockbuster Entertainment Awards.


His most famous song are It Ain't Over Til It's Over, Stand By My Woman, Fly Away, Again and many many more.


Foo Fighters

Foo Fighters is an American alternative rock band originally formed in 1994 by Nirvana drummer Dave Grohl.


Like Nirvana, the Foo Fighters melded loud, heavy guitars with pretty melodies and mixed punk sensibilities with a sharp sense of pop songwriting.


Over the course of the band's career, three of its albums have won Grammy Awards for Best Rock Album, and all seven albums have been nominated.


The band, named the Foo Fighters after a World War II secret force that allegedly researched UFOs.

Santi White (born September 25, 1976), better known by her stage name Santigold (formerly Santogold), is an American songwriter, producer, and singer. Her debut album Santogold was released to glowing reviews in 2008.


Her initial singles “Creator” and “L.E.S. Artistes” received attention from Internet media in 2007. Her debut album, Santogold, was issued in April 2008.


White's style has been compared often to that of M.I.A. White said of the M.I.A. comparison that they are both “women who have similar influences and have worked with some of the same people”.

Li Lykke Timotej Svensson Zachrisson (born March 18, 1986), better known by her stage name Lykke Li is a Swedish singer-songwriter.


Her music often blends elements of pop, indie rock and electronic; various instruments can also be found in her songs, including violins, synthesizers, tambourines, trumpets, saxophones and cellos. Her debut album, Youth Novels, was released in 2008.


In September 2010, she was announced as the official face of the Levi's Curve ID Collection, alongside Pixie Geldof and Miss Nine.

Inna Bocoum also known as Inna Modja (born May 19, 1984) is a rising star on France’s music scene. She was born in Bamako, Mali.


“I'm what I call ‘rock ‘n’ love’”, she tells Reuters Africa Journal when asked how she herself would categorize her music. “It’s not rock ‘n’ roll because I don’t go silly drinking or taking drugs, but I'm really rock, so I'm ‘rock ‘n’ love’.”


In late 2009 Inna Modja released a first soul-focused album underlined by simple touches of folk, pop and funk. Her compilation Love Revolution champions the art of loving yourself and others.

Jewel Kilcher (born May 23, 1974) is an American singer-songwriter, guitarist, producer, actress and poet. She was born in Payson, Utah, she was raised in remote Homer, Alaska. Jewel began her music career at the age of six, regularly performing alongside her singer/songwriter parents in local Eskimo villages and tourist attractions.


She has received four Grammy Award nominations and has sold over 27 million albums worldwide. A contemporary folkie renowned for her expressive, crystalline voice, singer/songwriter Jewel was among the most successful of the many new female performers.

Nina Elisabet Persson (born September 6, 1974) is the lead singer and lyricist for the Swedish pop group The Cardigans. She has also worked as a solo artist, releasing two albums.


She has also worked with rock group Sparklehorse and is a member of The Cake Sale collective. She is wonderfully talented vocalist and lyricist, primarily with Swedish band The Cardigans. The Cardigans are a Swedish rock band formed in 1992. They have released six studio albums.

Lou Rhodes is an English singer and songwriter from Manchester. In addition to providing vocals and lyrics for the band Lamb, Rhodes has released three solo albums.


Rhodes started her own record label to issue her debut solo album Beloved One. The most famous songs are Górecki and Gabriel. They appeared in several commercials.


She appeared few times on slovak music festival Bažant Pohoda.

Marcel Theo Hall (born April 8, 1964) from NYC Harlem, better known by his stage name, Biz Markie, is an American rapper, beatboxer, DJ, comedian, singer, reality television personality, and commercial spokesperson.


He is best known for his single “Just a Friend”, an American Top 10 hit in 1989. In 2008, “Just a Friend” made #100 on VH1's list of the 100 greatest hip hop songs of all time.


Markie has been called “the Clown Prince of Hip Hop.”

Wyclef Jeanelle Jean (born October 17, 1969) is a Haitian American musician, record producer, and politician.


Jean's musical breakthrough was as part of The Refugee Camp, better known as The Fugees, a three-member group that included Lauryn Hill and Prakazrel Pras Michel.


In 1997 he started his solo carrer and released his first solo album The Carnival. This album included hits like “Guantanamera” and “Gone till November”.

Natalie Jane Imbruglia (born February 4, 1975) is an Australian singer, songwriter, model and actress.


Imbruglia launched a singing career with the international hit, “Torn”. It reached number 2 in the British charts, and her album Left of the Middle became a million seller.


Imbruglia returned to acting in 2002 with a supporting role in British spy spoof Johnny English, playing alongside Rowan Atkinson.

Beverley Anne Smith better known as Beverley Knight (born March 22, 1973) is a British soul and R&B singer, songwriter, and record producer.


Like many other famous soul queens, she began singing in school and church choirs. She is widely labelled as one of Britain's greatest soul singers.


Influenced by Aretha Franklin, Sam Cooke and Prince, Beverley Knight started her career with the 1995 release, The B-Funk.

The Veronicas are an Australian electrorock, pop-punk and rock band. Twin sisters Jessica and Lisa Origliasso formed the band in 1999 in Brisbane.


They have released two studio albums, the first being The Secret Life of... in 2005 and it gained four times platinum, for 280,000+ sales.


They have their own line of clothing which was released in 2007.

The Asteroids Galaxy Tour is a Danish pop band consisting of vocalist Mette Lindberg and producer Lars Iversen. When performing live the band extends to a six-piece with horn section, featuring Miloud Carl Sabri (trumpet), Sven Meinild (saxophone), Mads Brinch Nielsen (guitar), and Rasmus Valldorf (drums).


Lars Iversen is the primary songwriter and producer. Formed in 2007, the band is based in Copenhagen, Denmark.


The Asteroids Galaxy Tour's debut album Fruit was released on September 21, 2009.

Maria Antónia Teixeira Rosa (born January 26, 1988) is a Portuguese and British singer-songwriter notable for her popularity on the video sharing website YouTube.


Rose opened her YouTube account on 29 December 2006 during her Christmas break from university. She posted daily videos singing various cover songs and within a month set a record number of subscriptions for a musician.


Her second self-released single, the double A side “What Would Christmas Be Like?” / “Fallin' For You” was released on 2 December 2009. “What Would Christmas Be Like?” was written by Rose, while “Fallin' For You” is a Colbie Caillat song.

Carla Bruni-Sarkozy (born Carla Gilberta Bruni Tedeschi; December 23, 1967) is an Italian-French songwriter, singer, actress, and former model.


In 1997, Bruni quit the world of fashion to devote herself to music. In 2002, her debut album Quelqu'un m'a dit, produced by Louis Bertignac, was released in Europe with success in Francophone countries.


“Quelqu'un m'a dit” debuted at number one on the French Album Chart, spending thirty-four non-consecutive weeks in the top ten. The album also reached the top ten in Germany, Switzerland, Italy, Portugal and Chile.

Charles Johnston (born in 1988) is an English indie singer-songwriter from West London.


He plays the guitar, piano, and cello. Charles is also a classically trained singer and performed in his school's choir. His sound has been described as everything from psychedelic rock to folk-pop.


After studying Sociology for two semesters, Charles returned to London in 2007, adopted the pseudonym King Charles, and formed a band, Adventure Playground.

Faith Renée Evans (born June 10, 1973) is an American singer-songwriter, record producer, and actress. Born in Florida, USA.


She became the first female artist to be contracted with Sean “Puff Daddy” Combs. Evans is known as the widow of New York rapper Christopher “The Notorious B.I.G.” Wallace.


After his death, a 1997 tribute single featuring Puff Daddy and the band 112, named I'll Be Missing You, became Evans' best-selling song to date and won her a Grammy Award.

The Ting Tings are an English musical duo, consisting of Jules de Martino and Katie White. Named after a Chinese friend whose name sounds like the Mandarin pronunciation of “bandstand”, the Ting Tings.


Band is dance-oriented indie pop duo. The Ting Tings released their debut and most successfull single, That's Not My Name, in the spring of 2007.

An energetic show with a modern mix of reggae, latin music and hip-hop served by charismatic Spanish frontwoman Carmen and six experienced international musicians.


Live performance of United Flavour creates a driving, groove oriented athmosphere, and Lead vocalist Carmen has an uncanny knack for connecting with the audience on an intimate level. Their performances have impressed scores of festivals and clubs.


Through their performances, the band wants to convey that people of different nationalities, origins, faiths and beliefs can work together without problems, conflicts or violence.

Paramore is an American rock band formed in 2004. The band consists of lead vocalist Hayley Williams, bassist Jeremy Davis, and guitarist Taylor York. The group released its debut album All We Know Is Falling in 2005.


Paramore has been nominated for three Grammy Awards. Their songs appeared in several video games.

Shaffer Chimere Smith, Jr. (born October 18, 1979) is an American pop and R&B singer-songwriter, record producer, dancer and actor.


Beginning his career as a songwriter. In 2006, he released his debut album, In My Own Words, which contained the US number one hit So Sick.


Then in 2007, he released his second album, Because of You. A year after, he released his third album, Year of the Gentleman, which contained the top 10 hits Closer,Mad and Miss Independent.


Nabolaget

Nabolaget is a rap band formed in 2002. The group consists of Erland “Evnerik” Gronstad and Andreas “Andym” Haugom.


Haugom and Gronstad are colleagues and cousins. In 2008, the Nabolaget release out its first official release.


At concerts, they perform with the DJ Matti (Mathis Lunde).


They opened for and played concerts together with the following artists: Xzibit (U.S.), The Game (U.S.), Busta Rhymesplayed concerts together with artists like Xzibit, The Game, Busta Rhymes, etc. They released two albums, in 2004 Nabovarsel and in 2008 Vi gjorde det sjol.


Yellowcard

Yellowcard is an American pop punk/alternative rock band formed in Jacksonville, Florida in 1997.


They are best known for their songs Ocean Avenue. Their music features a rare contribution to the genre, incorporating the use of a violin.


Yellowcard signed with Capitol Records in 2003 and released Ocean Avenue, which is their most successful album to date.


Pixie Lott

Victoria Louise Lott, best known as Pixie Lott (born January 12, 1991) is an English singer-songwriter, dancer and actress. Her mother gave her the nickname Pixie from when she was born “such a tiny, cute baby who looked like a fairy”.


She started singing in her church school. She cites Mariah Carey and Whitney Houston as major influences on her style of singing.


Her debut album Turn It Up was released in September 2009. Lott is often credited for her live performances and style.

Nada Surf is an American alternative rock band. Formed in 1992, the New York band consists of Matthew Caws (guitar, vocals), Ira Elliot (drums, backup vocals) and Daniel Lorca (bass, backup vocals).


Nada Surf was formed in the early nineties by Matthew Caws and Daniel Lorca. Concerning the band's name, Matthew said, “it's actually referring to something much more existential, it's just surfing on nothing. Being lost in your head or in your imagination but you know, whenever I listen to music I always find myself off somewhere. Somewhere in space. You know, in mental space and it's a reference to that.”


Their 7th album was released in 2012.

Au Revoir Simone is an electronic dream pop band from Brooklyn, New York, formed in late 2003. The group is composed of Erika Forster, Annie Hart, and Heather D'Angelo.


The band's name comes from a line Pee-wee Herman says to a minor character (named Simone) in Tim Burton's 1985 film, Pee-wee's Big Adventure.
